Asian Flame Moss is named after its growth form. Dense, upright and slightly wavy shoots give the impression of a deep green campfire 5-15 cm high. The very special shape makes Flame-moss particularly suitable for horizontal surfaces, and it only slowly spreads horizontally. A nice result can be achieved by tying the moss to small stones, or in small tufts on tree roots.

Riccia fluitans is a small, cosmopolitan liverwort which, depending on the conditions, grows 1-5 cm tall. Riccia is actually a floating plant, but the Japanese Takashi Amano has inspired many aquarists to keep Riccia fluitans submerged under water. It is held down by tying it to a rock with a piece of fishing line. New shoots seek the surface, so it is necessary to occasionally prick it with scissors. Under water, Riccia fluitans thrives best when CO2 is added, and when the growth conditions are good, small oxygen bubbles form in the leaf tips. As a traditional floating plant, it provides good protection for fish fry.

Monosolenium tenerum is a beautiful liverwort that grows 2-5 cm tall.

Best described as a giant, dark green Riccia that just stays at the base where it forms cushions. It is a fragile plant that easily splits, and it is best placed in the aquarium by being attached to rocks with fishing line or by spreading small clumps between other plants, e.g. Eleocharis.

Once Monosolenium is established, it makes very few demands. The plant is erroneously also known under the name Pellia.

1. Check that the regulator is completely closed and mount the regulator on the CO2 cylinder.

2. Fill the chamber of the diffuser with water.

3. Place the cartridge in the holder and mount the hose on the regulator and on the diffuser.

4. Mount the diffuser with the suction cups on the inside of the aquarium close to the bottom and so that the hose runs in a corner at the back of the aquarium.

5. Let the diffuser sit for 24 hours in the aquarium, so that the ceramic disc is well moistened before you open the CO2 supply.

6. Slowly open the regulator and count the number of bubbles in the chamber of the diffuser.

7. Wait 2 minutes and fine-tune and repeat until the number of bubbles is approx. equal to the recommendation in the table.

We have all tried it when setting up a new aquarium! The plants float to the surface when the water is poured on - or the neighboring plant is uprooted when a new plant is placed. It doesn't have to be that way. Use Tropica's plant tweezers when placing your plants in the bottom layer, whether it is a new installation or maintenance of an established aquarium.

Grasp the plant with the tweezers well below the root and pull the plant down into the gravel until it sits exactly where you want it. Carefully release the grip and pull up the tweezers.

Try it the next time you plant a new plant. The tweezers are also indispensable when you have cut the top shoots of stem plants and want to replant them next to the old stems.

Taiwan moss is an extremely light plant that can thrive in almost any aquarium. It can grow under low light conditions, but does not like very high temperatures. Good light conditions with added CO2 increase growth considerably.

The growth is very similar to 'Weeping moss', but Taiwan moss has a flatter growth form and branches more. This results in a more lush and dense appearance.

Taiwan moss readily adheres to stones and roots and is particularly suitable for a moss wall or for hiding installations in the aquarium.

This beautiful moss has not yet been fully identified as a species and studies are expected to place it in the Isopterygium family.

Salvinia auriculata is a cosmopolitan floating fern of 1-3 cm height. It is fast growing when there are sufficient amounts of nutrients and light. If the leaves become pale and the growth slows down, this is a sign that the plant lacks nutrients. It is therefore an excellent indicator plant. The rapid growth can easily take the light from the bottom plants in the aquarium, which is why part of the plants must be removed regularly. The Salvinia species have small hairs on the leaves that make them water-repellent.
It can contribute to algae control by shading parts of the aquarium and by using the nutrients in the water. Under optimal growing conditions, the leaves can become larger. Decorative plant for open aquariums.
It is very difficult to distinguish between the species and this one was previously called Salvinia natans.

The ground-covering Lilaeopsis brasiliensis from South America can thrive at fairly low light intensity and form a nice ground cover. However, an actual ''lawn effect'' is only achieved at high light intensities. The height varies between 4 and 7 cm. When planting in the aquarium, small clumps should be placed a few centimeters apart, as the plants will grow together faster. However, it should be planted in an open place without shade from other plants, so that the light can reach the plant. Lilaeopsis brasiliensis can be used in the garden pond and can also tolerate the low salt concentrations in a brackish water aquarium.

The South American Limnobium laevigatum is a decorative floating plant. The height is 1-5 cm and each plant can be 5-15 cm in diameter. The nice long and decorative roots provide security for gouramies and other fish that like to move around in the roots of the floating plants. Many fish also like to lay their eggs in the dense roots.

Limnobium can help limit algae growth by shading parts of the aquarium and using nutrients in the water. If there are sufficient nutrients in the water and the light is good, the plant will quickly spread by shoots. It is therefore regularly necessary to thin out so that the aquarium's other plants are not shaded too strongly. When the amount of fertilizer in the water decreases, the plant spreads more slowly and the growth rate is therefore a good indicator of whether there is sufficient fertilizer in the water.

Vesicularia ferriei 'Weeping' is believed to have originally originated in China and has been distributed via Oriental Aquarium Plants. 'Weeping' is a plump, 1-3 cm high, hanging moss with distinctive tear-like, light green shoot tips. The moss is particularly suitable for tying on decorative roots such as hanging gardens and provides depth and contrast in the aquarium. 'Weeping' is easy and fast-growing and needs regular pruning to maintain its expression.

Bacopa caroliniana originates from the USA and has been used as an aquarium plant for many years.

The stems are 10-30 cm long and 3-4 cm wide. Apart from the relatively high light requirements, it is an undemanding plant. The slow growth makes it one of the few stem plants that does not require much care.

Like most stem plants, it is most decorative if planted in a small group. It is easily propagated by cuttings by taking lateral shoots and planting them in the bottom layer.

This mini version of the well-known Alternanthera is characterized by much more compact growth and a more moderate growth rate. It is particularly suitable for small aquariums. With careful pinching, you can even create a dense, red-violet carpet about 5 centimeters high. Good light conditions are a prerequisite, as is the addition of CO2 to the aquarium.

Cryptocoryne crispatula var. balansae comes from southern Thailand where there are limestone mountains and the water can be very hard.

It does not make great demands on its surroundings, but would like to have good light conditions and a nutrient-rich bottom layer in order to thrive optimally. Like many other Cryptocorynes, it requires a period of adaptation, during which the plant creates a strong root network. Only then does growth begin with new and larger leaves.

The leaves reach a length of 20-60 cm and the individual rosette is 15-20 cm wide. Cryptocoryne crispatula should therefore be placed at the back of the aquarium, where the leaves can possibly float decoratively on the surface. The leaves can be either completely green or have a reddish-brown tint.
